It’s been a generally outstanding Olympics for the United States - Team USA is leading the overall medal count by nearly 3 dozen, and battling China for the most Gold. In the Summer Games two signature sports - Athletics and Swimming - the Americans have 22 Golds, leading all nations in both sports. But it’s not all individual or relay glory on the track and pool though.
Team USA’s teams - especially the Women - have also had great tournaments across several sports. Men’s Basketball and Women’s Soccer (arguable the two most marquee teams competing for America) both won Gold today. The Women’s Basketball team are heavy favorites for the Gold today.
In the more obscure sports, the Women’s Rugby Sevens team scored the upset of the Games over Australia to secure a Bronze Medal, the Women’s Field Hockey team returned after missing the Tokyo Games, and and the Men’s Volleyball team took Bronze. Later today the Women’s Volleyball team goes for Gold against Italy, and the Men’s Water Polo team faces Hungary for Bronze. And let’s not forget Gymnastics where the Men had an historic Bronze and the Women did their thing and brought home another Gold. Oh, and we also took Silver in Artistic Swimming.
So while we’re still waiting for America’s first Handball medal, let’s celebrate our Parisian successes and remember we automatically qualify for everything in 2028…
Enjoy the final day of the Games. We’ll be back tomorrow with a final wrap-up.
