With the closing the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, the Olympic world now turns it attention to Paris. We’re just 886 days from the Opening Ceremony on the Seine. That’s right, Paris is planning a totally unique ceremony through the heart of the city along its famous waterway.
The Paris 2024 will include 10,500 athletes competing in 329 events across 32 sports. That includes the 28 “core Olympic Sports,” one totally new sport - break dancing, and the three new Tokyo 2020 sports of skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing.
France isn’t really great for surfing in the summer, so the Olympic surfing events will be held nearly 10,000 miles away in Tahiti. There, Olympic surfers will compete on the infamous “Wall of Skulls.”
Sailing will be in the Mediterranean off the coast of Marseille, and Football will be around the country. Everything else is in or around Paris. Paris 2024 hopes to showcase the city and present a compact, sustainable Olympics with 100% of spectators able to reach the Games by public transit.
Finally, it’s never too early for a little Olympics controversy. This one centered on the logo, which depicts the Olympic flame and a Gold Medal. Some people see something else.
